Thistle Atlantic Coast Championship Cup Back at Cottage Park after 34 years
The weekend of July 10-11, 2004 the Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop, MA hosted the
2004 Thistle Atlantic Coast Championships. The Atlantic Coast Championships is one of the Premier Thistle Regattas one tier down from the Nationals. It is one of the uglier trophies
in existence, but has been won by some of the top sailors in the country.
This year our Race Committee consisted of a team of seasoned Sailors
including Hatch Brown who won the Atlantic Coasts in 1971. It was
exciting for the Thistles to be back at Cottage Park. The founding Fleet
members were all on hand helping to organize the event. For this
years championship we had 49 competitors from 15 States from as far away as
Florida, Kansas, Ohio, Maryland participate.
After the scores were tallied, Erik Goethert from CPYC was able to
beat Greg Griffin's team from Jacksonville, Florida by 3 points. The Top
five teams were sailed with families and over half of the competitors were
family teams. The tradition of the Thistle Class continues and it is
exciting to see the Atlantic Coast Championship Trophy Back at Cottage Park
Yacht Club after 34 years. For all scores check out the results page. Click through our online photo gallery from the regatta.
We would also like to thank our Sponsors:
Annapolis Performance Sailing, Layline, Harken, West Marine and US Sailing.
