At the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge on November 25th, Cottage Park Yacht Club was honored as yacht club of the year by the Massachusetts Bay Sailing Association, formerly, The Yacht Racing Union of Massachusetts Bay.
Engraved on the Leonard M. Fowle Award is the following inscription:
For ninety-five years the Cottage Park Yacht Club has taken the lead in promoting sailing in and around Boston Harbor. Incorporated in 1902, the purpose, as stated in it's by-laws, is to encourage it's members to become proficient in navigation and all matters pertaining to seamanship and personal management of yachts. Open year round, CPYC provides to all sailors their race committee and the hospitality of the club house. They are very active in junior racing, one design, PHRF, and an intrepid group of interclub and laser frostbiters. CPYC is the home to some of the sailing seasons most anticipated and well attended regattas in Boston Harbor. Host club to the JFK Regatta, the Constitution Cup, the Boston Harbor Challenge Cup, and the Make-a-Wish Regatta, Cottage Park Yacht Club has always provided excellence to the racing community. CPYC has been the home of the Boston Harbor Star Fleet for over 50 years, and this year, along with the Eastern Yacht Club, was the host club of the International Star Class World Championships. Long a staunch supporter of the Massachusetts Bay Sailing Association, CPYC has once again demonstrated its commitment by providing Mass. Bay Sailing a home for its meetings and by enrolling more new members in 1997 than any other club. Keeping this sailing tradition going and always looking forward, CPYC continues to be a leader in Mass Bay sailing and is worthy and a deserving recipient of the Leonard M. Fowle Trophy for yacht club of the year.
